The Journey Museum
The journey museum takes you on a journey of black hills history. we begin with a 14 minute film and then proceed to the star room. after the star room, the fomation of the black hills and the age of the dinosaurs is covered in the geology/paleontology section of our museum. archaeology is next ant the first reports of humans and the artifacts, tools, weapons, pottery, are studied. the sioux indian museum is next and we take a look at the lives of the sioux before the non-indian people start arrving. see how buffalo were used, how tipis were made, what they used animals for. next is the fur traders cabin and then the pioneer museum. pioneers started setttling the black hills in 1876 after the discovery of gold. take a look at the hardships they early pioneers faced and how the indiansand non-indian relations evolved over the past 100+ years. we take you to 1972 when a major flood hit the black hills region claiming 238 lives. also visit our wonderful gift shop and our two fantastic art/exhibit galleries.
